Media release: Cairns is officially a Smart City!
Cairns is officially becoming a “smart city” as IoT Australasia commissions five Internet of Things (IoT) gateways across FNQ this weekend.
This exciting new technology will bring significant benefits to Cairns businesses and residents, including real-time environmental monitoring and asset tracking solutions.
“This is an incredibly important step for Cairns to strengthen our economy moving forward”, said IoT Australasia CEO Damian Zammit. “We can be an Australian leader in transitioning from the old economy to the emerging jobs of the future.”
To support this, we’ll be creating educational hubs where people can learn how to easily adopt IoT solutions into their businesses and homes.
Utilising LoRaWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technology, devices enjoy an average of three years battery life with the 15-25km range. Getting instant notifications on water levels inside boats, houses and roads has the potential to save our region millions of dollars each year.
IoT Australasia is proudly associated with theSPACE, an award-winning startup and innovation hub operating out of Cairns TAFE.
